Realistically, we will never truly run out of oil. As the "easy" sources of oil begin to run out, the price of oil goes up and new technology allows us to access more oil that was too expensive to get at before. We will never run out of petroleum. It will be just much more expensive to extract and alternative sources of energy will be cheaper in comparison. You may have read that the world's oil supply will run out in a few decades.
