The Retail Trading Hours Act 1987 applies to retail shops in Western Australia south of the 26th parallel. It sets out the trading hours and rules covering various categories of retail outlets. The trading hours of restaurants, cafes and takeaway food shops are not covered by the Act. This Bill amends the Retail Trading Hours Act 1987 to extend retail trading hours for general shops in the metropolitan area; to remove the distinction in the Act between types of filling stations; to abolish the concept of holiday resorts; and to exclude from the operation of the Act stalls in short-term markets. The Trading Hours Act regulates trading hours in three classes of shops (as defined): Exempt shops; Independent retail shops; and Non-exempt (large) shops. These three classes of shops were established in the Trading Hours Act 1987 following a government review. Queensland is the only jurisdiction in which trading hours for the 18.
