The headline German IFO Business Climate Index came in at 96.1 in February, stronger than last month's 95.9 and beating the consensus estimates pointing to a reading of 95.3. The Ifo Business Climate Index is a survey based on about 7,000 responses from firms in manufacturing construction, wholesaling, and retailing. It is widely used as an early indicator for economic development in Germany. The Ifo business-climate index came in at 95.0 points in November, up from an upwardly revised 94.7 in October, the Ifo Institute said. The ifo Business Climate Index is the most important leading indicator for the development of the economy in Germany. It includes manufacturing sector, the construction industry, wholesaling and retailing and the service sector.
