ESI Contribution Rate Reduced by Central Government for both employee and Employers. Under the Revised ESI Contribution Rate now employee has to pay 0.75% instead of 1.75% and Employers contribution will become 3.25% instead of 4.25 %. In Simple Words we may say that Total ESI Contribution Rate will become 4 % in place of 6%. Currently, the employee’s ESI contribution rate is 1.75% of the wages and employer’s is 4.75% of the wages paid in respect of the employees in every wage period. Now, the Central Government is planning to lower the ESI contribution rate of 1% ( for employee) and 4% (for an employer). A notification has been issued by Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Authorities increasing the wage limit of employee covered under the ESIC scheme from the existing limit of Rs.15, 000 to Rs.21, 000 with effect from January 1st, 2017. The new move aims to bring about 50 lakh workers under the ESIC social security scheme and bring affordable healthcare to not just employees but also their dependent family members.
